Starbucks Rewards Terms & Conditions
Everything you need to know about earning Stars, redeeming Rewards, and maximizing your Starbucks experience.

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY. BY ACCESSING OR USING THIS PROGRAMME, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS DESCRIBED HEREIN AND ALL TERMS INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THESE TERMS, YOU SHOULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAMME.

These Terms and Conditions apply to your access to and participation in the Starbucks® Rewards Programme, which, in the Republic of South Africa, is operated by Rand Capital Coffee (Pty) Ltd or its affiliated companies (collectively, “Starbucks”) (“Starbucks Rewards”). These Terms and Conditions do not alter any other agreements you may have with Starbucks for products, services, or otherwise.

Starbucks reserves the right to modify, change, or discontinue Starbucks Rewards and/or these Terms and Conditions, or any associated policy, FAQ, or guideline at its sole discretion. Any modifications will be effective immediately upon posting on www.starbucks.co.za, and you waive any right to specific notice of such changes. Continued participation in Starbucks Rewards will confirm your acceptance of these modifications. As such, it is recommended that you frequently review these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree with the amended terms, you must cease participation in Starbucks® Rewards.

This programme is not targeted at, nor intended for, individuals under the age of 18. Please review the Privacy Policy to understand how Starbucks collects, uses, and discloses customer information.

 

ABOUT STARBUCKS® REWARDS

Starbucks® Rewards is designed to recognize and reward loyal customers who purchase Starbucks products. Members can earn and accumulate "Stars," which can be redeemed for Starbucks Rewards benefits ("Rewards") at participating Starbucks stores. Not all Starbucks stores are currently able to award or redeem Stars. To find the nearest participating location, visit the Starbucks Store Locator: https://starbucks.co.za/store-locator.

 

JOINING STARBUCKS® REWARDS

To join Starbucks Rewards, visit www.starbucks.co.za or download the Starbucks® South Africa mobile app (for Android™ or iPhone®) and follow the prompts to create an account. The following information is required:

  1. First and last name, email address, password, and marketing preferences.
  2. Birthday (optional) – If provided, you will receive a birthday reward. If not, no birthday offer will be granted.

Upon joining, a digital membership barcode will be provided, and members may request a Starbucks Card with a zero ZAR (R0.00) balance. Funds can be added online at www.starbucks.co.za/account, via the App, or in person at participating Starbucks stores. Physical Starbucks Cards can also be registered to an account by entering the 16-digit Starbucks Card number and security code.

All Starbucks Cards, including digital ones, are subject to the Starbucks Card Terms & Conditions, which are incorporated into these Terms of Use. Personal data provided for account creation and Starbucks Card registration will be processed in accordance with the Starbucks Privacy Policy, including potential processing in the United States.

 

EARNING STARS

Stars are earned based on purchases at participating Starbucks stores in South Africa using a registered Starbucks Card or the Starbucks® South Africa app.

Paying with a Starbucks Card

  • Earn 1 Star for every R2 ZAR spent at participating stores when using a digital Starbucks Card in the App.
  • Earn 1 Star for every R2 ZAR spent when paying in-store with a registered physical Starbucks Card.
  • Earn 1 Star for every R2 ZAR spent when scanning the barcode in the App before using a physical Starbucks Card to complete a purchase.

Paying with Another Payment Method

Before completing a transaction, members must scan or swipe their registered Starbucks Card, App, or digital membership barcode at the till. The purchase may then be completed using a credit card, debit card, or mobile wallet to earn 1 Star for every R2 ZAR spent.

Promotional Bonus Star Offers

Starbucks may offer "Bonus Stars" through special promotions. These additional Stars will be awarded as per the promotional offer’s terms and conditions.

Star Calculation & Display

Stars are awarded up to two decimal places (“Stardust”) to ensure accurate transaction recognition. While full balances are available in account details, the Starbucks South Africa App may display the balance rounded down to the nearest whole number.

There is no upper limit on Star accrual, but Starbucks reserves the right to impose a cap at its discretion.

 

STARBUCKS® REWARDS PROGRAMME

There are two levels of benefits in Starbucks® Rewards depending on the number of Stars that you accumulate in your account.

Green Level

  • Entry into Green Level is automatic upon registering an account or Starbucks Card.
  • Once 250 Stars are earned, members may redeem them for a free barista-prepared drink at participating South African Starbucks stores.
  • Stars continue to accrue until redeemed, with each additional 250 Stars granting another Free Drink Reward.
  • Members must scan their registered Starbucks Card, digital card, or digital membership barcode in the App to redeem Stars.

Gold Level

  • Earn 750 Stars within 12 months to reach Gold Level.
  • Maintain Gold Level by earning another 750 Stars in the following 12 months.
  • Gold Level benefits include:
    • All Green Level benefits.
    • Free selected syrups and toppings for beverages.
      • This is limited to 1 pump of syrup and/or topping to a drink
    • A birthday Free Drink Reward (valid for 30 days).
    • 1 Free refill on brewed coffee, filter coffee or brewed tea.
      • Dependant on stock availability
      • For Dine-In only not Take-away
      • Needs to be for the same drink and drink size

 

STAR EXPIRATION

Stars are added to accounts within 24 hours of an eligible purchase and expire two (2) years from the date of award if not redeemed. Expiring Stars will be deducted from the account accordingly.

 

EXCLUSIONS TO EARNING & REDEEMING STARS; PARTICIPATING STORES ONLY

  • Stars can only be earned and redeemed at participating South African Starbucks stores.
  • Stars cannot be earned on Starbucks Card activations, reloads, transfers, or card-to-card transactions.
  • Not all stores offer Rewards or Star redemption. Use the Store Locator and filter for "accepts Starbucks Card" to find participating locations.

 

MISCELLANEOUS

  • No membership fees are associated with Starbucks Rewards.
  • Stars and coupons have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Stars, benefits, and registered Starbucks Cards are non-transferable.
  • Only one benefit per transaction is allowed (e.g., earning Stars or redeeming a discount, but not both).
  • Starbucks may "unregister" and deactivate accounts inactive for two (2) consecutive years.
  • Disputes arising from these Terms & Conditions will be governed by South African law.
  • Starbucks reserves the right to modify or discontinue the Rewards Programme at any time without notice.
