Everything You Need to Know About Earning Stars, Redeeming Rewards, and Maximizing Your Starbucks Experience

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY. BY ACCESSING OR USING THIS PROGRAMME, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS DESCRIBED HEREIN AND ALL TERMS INCORPORATED BY REFERENCE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THESE TERMS, YOU SHOULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAMME.

These Terms and Conditions apply to your access to and participation in the Starbucks Rewards Programme, which, in the Republic of South Africa, is operated by Rand Capital Coffee (Pty) Ltd or its affiliated companies (collectively, “Starbucks” or “we”) (“Starbucks Rewards”). These Terms and Conditions do not alter any other agreements you may have with Starbucks for products, services, or otherwise.

Starbucks reserves the right to modify, change, or discontinue Starbucks Rewards and/or these Terms and Conditions, or any associated policy, FAQ, or guideline at its sole discretion. Any modifications will be effective immediately upon posting on www.starbucks.co.za. Continued participation in Starbucks Rewards confirms your acceptance of these modifications. As such, it is recommended that you frequently review these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree with the amended terms, you must cease participation in Starbucks Rewards.

This programme is not targeted at, nor intended for, individuals under the age of 18. Starbucks Rewards is only valid within South Africa and cannot be redeemed, transferred, or used in any other country.

Please review the Privacy Policy to understand how Starbucks collects, uses, and discloses customer information in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa. Data is processed securely, and Starbucks does not collect personally identifiable sensitive information.

 

ABOUT STARBUCKS REWARDS

Starbucks Rewards is designed to recognize and reward loyal customers who purchase Starbucks products. Members can earn and accumulate "Stars," which can be redeemed for Starbucks Rewards benefits ("Rewards") at participating Starbucks stores. All Starbucks stores in South Africa currently participate in this programme; however, this may be subject to change in the future. JOINING STARBUCKS REWARDS

To join Starbucks Rewards, visit www.starbucks.co.za or download the Starbucks South Africa mobile app (for Android™ or iPhone®) and follow the prompts to create an account. The following information is required:

  1. First and last name, email address, and password (Customers should remember their registered email address as it is required for password resets and troubleshooting issues.)
  2. Birthday (optional) – If provided, members will receive a Birthday Reward. If the date is not provided at signup, the Birthday Reward will not be available upon reaching Gold Level.

Upon joining, a digital membership barcode will be provided via the App. Customers can also obtain a physical Starbucks Card with a zero balance (R0.00) from stores. Funds can be added to the App or physical Starbucks Card online or in-store. Physical cards must be linked to the App to accumulate Stars.

All Starbucks Cards, including digital ones, are subject to the Starbucks Card Terms & Conditions.

 

EARNING STARS

Stars are earned based on purchases at participating Starbucks stores in South Africa using the Starbucks South Africa App. Customers must scan their digital membership barcode before completing a transaction.

  • Earn 1 Star for every R2 ZAR spent at participating stores using the Starbucks South Africa App.

Starbucks may also offer "Bonus Stars" through special promotions, subject to promotional terms & conditions.

Star Calculation & Display

Stars are awarded up to two decimal places (“Stardust”) for accurate transaction recognition. While full balances are available in account details, the Starbucks South Africa App may display the balance rounded down to the nearest whole number.

(Clarification: Stardust ensures any fractional Stars accumulate over time to form whole Stars.)

 

STARBUCKS REWARDS PROGRAMME

Green Level

  • Automatic entry upon registration.
  • Earn 250 Stars to redeem for a barista-prepared beverage or food item at participating stores (excludes merchandise and gift cards).

Gold Level

  • Earn 750 Stars within 12 months to qualify.
  • Maintain Gold Level by earning another 750 Stars in the following 12 months.
  • Gold Level benefits:
    • All Green Level benefits.
    • Free syrups and toppings (limited to one portion per beverage).
    • Birthday Reward (only valid if birthday was provided at registration, valid for 30 days).
    • 1 free refill on brewed coffee or tea (dine-in only, subject to stock availability, for the same drink and size).

(Clarification: Free refills are for in-store brewed beverages and are not available at locations without brew equipment.)

 

STAR EXPIRATION

  • Stars expire two (2) years from the date of award if not redeemed.
  • If an account is inactive for 24 consecutive months, it will be automatically unregistered, and any accumulated Stars will be forfeited.

 

EXCLUSIONS TO EARNING & REDEEMING STARS

  • Stars can only be earned and redeemed at participating South African Starbucks stores.
  • Stars cannot be earned on:
    • Starbucks Card activations, reloads, transfers, or card-to-card transactions.
    • Purchases of merchandise or gift cards.

 

MISCELLANEOUS

  • No membership fees are associated with Starbucks Rewards.
  • Stars, benefits, and registered Starbucks Cards are non-transferable.
  • Only one benefit per transaction is allowed (e.g., customers cannot earn Stars and use a discount code (Yoyo, eBucks) in the same transaction).
  • Disputes arising from these Terms & Conditions will be governed by South African law.
  • Starbucks reserves the right to modify or discontinue Starbucks Rewards, but reasonable notice will be given to allow customers to redeem any outstanding rewards.
